How to go from brown to blonde at home (& maintain it)

Before I decided to go back to my more natural roots (get it?) a bit last week by going ombré I made sure to film a video on how to go from brown to blonde at home AND avoid the horrible carrot orange stages inbetween. Oh yes, I did have to endure delightful carrot orange stages getting to that light colour due to  not researching before attacking my locks. Anyway, I know lots of girls with brown hair dream of becoming a blondey but don't have the bank balance to do it so I really hope this video can help you get there! It's also got advice on maintaining both salon and home dyed blonde hair and avoiding brassiness which would be great for ombré girls too. As always please subscribe to my Youtube channel if you want to see more and feel free to comment here or contact me on Twitter if you have any more questions about hair colour or maybe how to grow it as I went though a bit of a drastic change in that department too!

  1. Ah I don't think I will ever be brave enough to have my hair short like you used to!also if I was to go blonde I think it would be a couple of orange stages before I got there cos my hair is so dark hehe!looking forward to hearing your tips just out of interest!:-)x

  3. Brown is such a different look on you! Once when I was trying to go from bleached blonde to a more natural light blonde I ended up with slivery green hair and orange roots. It was horrendous :(

  4. Meg our hair stories are so similar! I dyed mine black and hated it so booked an emergency appointment at the salon the next day. They lightened it but it went ORANGE - bright orange. They put an ashy blonde/brown over the top but it still showed through so i dyed it at home with good ol' SB10 and ive never looked back. Love that it doesnt contain bleach too - when i get regrowth it looks so much more natural. My hair is really light but not bleached white. Loved the video - really good advice and products mentioned :) x x

    2. Ohh beth how spookily similar! I've always loved your hair so I like that I used to use the same dye, thank goodness it saved us from our orange nightmares! So happy you enjoyed the video too :) and I'm actually wearing MAC 'shy girl' with the No7 'coral reef' bb for lips over the top but I think its worn off a bit, I do need to showcase that YSL one soon though! Thanks for your lovely comments lately too, they really make me smile! Xxx

  6. Hi Meg do you think it would be ok to use the pre-lightener you've mentioned and then the ash blonde a couple of days later..? I'm running on a deadline for Christmas outings I am a natural ash brown but I have been using ash brown dye kits just to cover grey roots and I'm nowhere near the colour I want because the brown home kits do put a redish tint in my hair which I hate :(

  7. I have dirty blonde hair but currently have a reddish brown dye on top and want to go ash blonde. What are your thoughts on colorfix dye remover instead of a prelightener?
