Three Spring Updates

It's now the second weekend of Spring and we're only a day away from the clocks going forward, so I thought it was about time Meg's Boutique got some Spring style lovin'. As much as I'd love to switch straight to tinted moisturiser and all pastel everything, with the chilly temperatures and grey skies we're facing (boo British weather) it's better to ease in to the new season slowly with a few simple changes:

SUNKISSED TAN // My skin has been resembling casper the friendly ghost for far too long, so I've given a new gradual tan the task of giving me sunkissed skin without any actual sunshine. The Shiseido Daily Bronze Moistorising Emulsion is perfect for the job, providing a nice amount of olive based colour without the smell of digestives and a serious amount of moisture to boot. Apply out of the shower/whenever things are on the pasty side.
OFF WHITE NAILS // A Spring trend I am very excited to welcome back into my beauty life are pastel nails and this year I'm taking pastel that bit further with the recently launched 'New White' collection from Nails inc. My favourite from the bunch is 'Swan Street', a super pretty barely there milky mint green that goes with all manner of lip, cheek and clothes colours and works oh so well with my aforementioned new topped up tan.
FLUSHED LIPS // Being a bold lip girl at heart paring back the lip colour is a big Spring step for me, but I am getting quite obsessed with the Dior Addict Lip Glow. Not only does it nourish lips left dry from Winter, but it works with your natural lip colour to give a glow that's perfect for you. This is also the most low maintenance lip product I've tried (no mirror necessary!) and works with any makeup look. Perhaps I'm becoming a nude lip convert after all...

Have you made any Spring beauty updates?

Sunday Skate | OOTD

As much as I love dressing up, there's something so nice about dressing down a bit at weekends in a more cute casual style. Not that I'm talking about wearing track pants here, disco pants are far more up my street... some may reserve these for nights out but teamed with my new oversized denim shirt from GAP you have a daytime look that's strategically crafted for wolfing down second helpings of Sunday Roast. I decided to add some chunky girly accessories like the ditzy print Primark hair bow, which makes things a little more interesting and Spring like, even if the weather continues to be stubbornly arctic. My favourite thing about this outfit has to be the shiny new skater shoes from good old Toppers. These were picked up on a whim as a nice alternative to converse and I'm in love with the monochrome snakeskin print and chunky soles. They have taken a little while to wear in, but now they're comfy enough to take to the skate park- if that's what you're into y'know. I'll stick to just posing in them instead I think.

What's your ideal sunday style?

Just Dropped | Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua

I have an exciting piece of beauty news for you today- the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets (aka my favourite lip products of all time) have now got a whole line of Spring time sisters, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Aquas! Think everything that's great about the Velvets- liquid lipstick formula, pocket sized packaging, amazing colours that last all day, £8.99 price tag- then add a high shine glossy finish that wears down into a gorgeous stain. I'm usually a devoted matte finish kinda girl as I find it offers the best longevity and pigmentation, but the Aqua I've been trailing in 'Fuschia Perchie' gives full colour saturation in a couple of easy to apply coats and once the shine has gone you're still left with a pretty pink pout until bedtime. Another thing I normally dislike about glossy finishes is that they tend to feel slippy and stray from the lips, but Fuschia Perchie feels so comfortable and stays where it's supposed to, which puts your mind at ease when you decide wearing bright lipstick to nandos is a good idea. Only me? It's not just the brights I'm tempted by in this range, the peachy pink and nude shades, compete with rather pleasing metallic lids, would be the perfect way to update your lip look for Spring. In fact I see these popping up in a lot of Spring picks posts this season, as well as into my Boots basket this afternoon...

Are you as excited for the Rouge Edition Aquas?

Real Techniques Bold Metals

If there's one brand that has gained unanimous love in the blogging world, it's Real Techniques. Designed by the original beauty vlogging duo, Pixiwoo, those colourful brushes are staples in most makeup routines for only a small dent in your bank balance. So naturally everyone (myself included) went a bit barmy for the new Real Techniques range, Bold Metals. I was lucky enough to go to the rather swanky launch party and hear all about this more high end, professional branch of the brush franchise from Sam & Nic themselves, so thought it only fair that I report back to you.

Let's start by swooning over the gold, silver and most importantly, rose gold casing. Seriously Instagram friendly factor- tick. These stunning metallic handles are also longer, weighted for easy handling and have square edges so they don't roll off dressing tables, making them perfect for busy makeup artists. The whole finish of these brushes is just incredibly luxe, with each set of ultra soft bristles hand tied to create the highest quality result. The range of styles is also more advanced than your standard set of RT's with the likes of Arched Powder and Flat Contour. But whilst these might sound a bit advanced and designed for people in the industry, don't let that put you off purchasing- I've got the Triangle Foundation, Pointed Crease and Angled Liner brushes and have already found a solid place for all three in my collection. The foundation brush is unlike any other I've used to apply my base- more of a traditional shape than the buffing brush I normally reach for, this applies foundation onto the skin in a very precise fashion, creating an undetectable, flawless finish with the tapered tip allowing you to cover those tricky small eye/nose areas. The eye brushes are just as effective, with the dense 201 being perfectly formed for packing powder shadow into the crease and 202 working to create varying levels of definition around the eyes using shadow or liner. They're just the kind of duo you need to create more detailed eye looks. Little foamy sponge and useless brush that comes with gel liner pots be gone!

At £10-25 these brushes are pricier than the original Real Techniques range, but still cheaper than MAC and incredibly worth your pennies for both professional finish and looking instagrammably pretty.

February Favourites

I'm a little late on the old favourites post this month, but there were such good new entries in February I couldn't resist sharing them with you now... Taking care of complexion perfection throughout Feb were two newcomers to my collection, Nars Sheer Glow in 'Light 6 Ceylan' & the Clinique Chubby Contour Stick. Sheer Glow has to be my favourite ever foundation, offering amazing long lasting coverage with a stunning satin finish that I've found gets rather alot of compliments (thank you kind people). Add in stripes of Clinque's new super sculpting chubby offering and you'll wonder why Kim Kardashian is staring back at you in the mirror- just maybe without the new hair. February was also the month colour came back into my life, with the glossy mint Barry M 'Sugar Apple' Jelly Paint brightening up my nails and Maybelline's Colour Drama Lip Crayon in ' In With Coral' adding a perfect creamy candy pop to my pout. There were also a couple of behind the scenes items at work last month like the mini Moroccanoil Treatment. I use this styling, finishing and conditioning wonder product before blowdrying and on dry ends in between washes and find it really nourishes my locks, making everything sleeker and more manageable. This mini size is perfect for popping in the handbag and topping up on the go too- crazy winter hair be gone! In the skin department Sarah Chapman has most certainly been the saviour. Her Skinesis Overnight Facial is oh so pricey, but oh boy does it work- when I wake up after popping this on before bed my skin is so much smoother, super glowy and seriously juicy. That's a good thing I promise.

Pretty sure that's enough raving for now as I'm currently in Portsmouth meeting my beautiful newborn niece, River!! I'll give you all a lovely lowdown on the little lady when I return (although of course there are already insta updates), but it's safe to say I'm totally in love.

Benefit Roller Lash

I've always been the biggest fan of pretty much all Benefit products, however when it came to mascara I just didn't get on with their Badgal Lash or They're Real- one was too subtle, the other I could never get off. So I was a rather happy bunny when this month Benefit answered my mascara prayers and brought out a lash solution I love, the fabulous Roller Lash. First off, the packaging and marketing is on point and I very much enjoy the roller inspired lid brightening up my make up bag. Secondly, this stuff just does what it says on the tube- gives your lashes amazing curl that holds without fiddly tools I've never had the time for. This is thanks to the unique brush design which is arched and features little hooks at the end of each bristle that literally 'hook & roll' each lash. Having not ever bothered with eyelash curlers before, I'd never really considered the benefits of having lifted lashes, but it really opens the eyes, making me look far more awake. Hooray for perky peepers! Roller Lash also brings it in the volume department, giving me the thickness and fullness I love whilst still offering nice separation. My only niggle is that it could be more lengthening, but this does make it a great everyday mascara which isn't going to give you night out spider eyes. Perhaps for this reason it also rarely transfers beneath my eye brows, which really makes my day every time the 3pm make up check comes around.

There are actually very few mascaras currently residing on my must have list, but this has already made it on there and I'd highly recommend popping it on yours too.

Have you given Roller Lash a go?

LFW Backstage Beauty Report

A week has passed since all the fashion madness ended at Somerset House, so I figured it was about time I got round to writing up my LFW report. I got to go backstage/watch so many amazing shows this year from Julien Macdonald to Henry Holland and loved every minute of capturing the hair, makeup and nail trends for AW15. But rather than bore you with every little detail, I thought I'd give you a bite sized breakdown of what trends to expect, why you should buy certain products and which looks to give a go now.

AW15 LOOKS | flawless skin, natural skin, contoured cheek bones, flushed cheeks, dewy highlight, fake freckles, copper wash shadow, graphic liner, smokey eyes, minimal mascara, natural full brows, intense berry lips, just bitten lips, metallic nails, pastel polish, matte topcoats, halo braids, textured tresses, wet to dry finish.

BACKSTAGE PRODUCTS | bourjois nude sensation foundation, topshop cheek jelly, mac paintpot in 'stormy pink', topshop freckle pencil, maybelline brow drama, maybelline lash sensational mascara, bourjois rouge edition velvet in 'grand cru', l'oreal techni art range, babyliss styling tools, l'oreal elnett, essie matte topcoat, bioderma

TRENDS TO TRY | matching lip and cheek using the same rosy product in both places, blended out with fingers. matte nails created by painting a matte topcoat on soft feminine colours such as lilac. braids mainly of the halo variety teased for an undone finish. dewy glow achieved by mixing a nude eye pencil/lip balm on top of the cheek bones.
