Instant lash love | Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

When it comes to mascara I am as loyal as they come- I don't even remember the last time I purchased a lash product that wasn't the Bourjois Volume Clubbing Mascara. However, a recent reorganise of my makeup collection urged me to try some of the other mascaras I've had stashed away in my 'to use box' for goodness knows how long. Cue introduction of Too Faced 'Better Than Sex' Mascara. Cheeky. I only first tried this on Monday and was instantly so wowed I even told Dave all about it. He didn't exactly give me the equally enthusiastic response I was after (and was also slightly startled by the name) so I thought you girls might appreciate my rave more than he.

The bottom line is that this stuff just gives the most incredible instant false lash effect volume AND length. Even our good old volume clubbing took a few coats to achieve what this does in just one! It also holds a curl beautifully so you can toss those faffy tools away and the shaped bristle brush is exactly the kind I love to work with. No plastic here please. Sadly, like every mascara, the lovely black formula does transfer slightly under my eye brows (there is a curse to big eyes and long lashes!) but this dilemma is nothing new and I just need to take more time to powder that area like there's no tomorrow.

The packaging is cute and the name is bold and I really think poor old Bourjois has finally been usurped. At under £20 for the easiest false lash look everyday this has to be your sneaky payday purchase. Rave over.

Have you tried this mascara or are you loyal to another lash love?

Babymoon

I thought I'd kick off this week's posts with a little look back at my first January weekend, when my mum & I took my gorgeous mum-to-be sister, Nathalie, on a little babymoon to London. Seeing as she'll soon have a little bubba to carry around, it seemed like the perfect time to stroll in the big city and have some much deserved shopping and show time.

I WORE // I wanted to be comfy & warm (it was freeeezing) so went for my Boohoo cropped berry jumper & Missguided camel coat, with a cheeky pair of pleather shorts beneath them. Flat boots were a great shout too with all that walking- even if it was mainly shop based...

WE STAYED // I have my lovely mama to thank for this because she treated us to a stay at the oh so swanky Marriott hotel right next to the London Eye. It was completely gorgeous and the room was so big I felt like doing roly polys in it. Is it just me who gets like that?
WE ATE // There was a breakfast to die for at the hotel- full English, pastries & berries with creme fresh. All in a suitably pinteresty background I might add. We also had a delightful Bill's, hence the pink lemonade. I had the fish cakes & quinoa salad whilst my mum & sister went for the fish finger sandwich with crumble and eaton mess to finish. What food envy?
WE SAW // In the evening we went and saw Mr Ronan Keating himself in the amazing 'Once'. He was an absolute dreamboat and the musical was brilliant. If you're expecting show tunes and a fairy tale ending then it might not be for you, but as a former theatre student I loved the Brechtian style, folk music and clever use of cast and stage.

Of course there was also a trip to Liberty and the like- it really was the perfect start to January! Although I have to say I'm rather overjoyed it's now nearly the end of Jan. Role on Valentine's, baby showers and peachy pink lip colours...

Life Update | The Big Move

Happy Friday y'all! I'm back with a quick life update before heading off to eat my weight in pizza/fish food with the girls at a good old sleepover. Never too old. Anyway, the reason I've been a bit MIA on the old blog this week is because I've moved! And this wasn't just any move, but 'the move in with the boyfriend to the big city move'! After five years together being long distance and then recently enduring epic work commutes, it's been a long time coming and I'm loving every minute. As well as being with the boy so much more, living down the road from my best friends and having the ability to get to work in just 40 minutes, there's the whole home ware, cooking and area exploring side of things which are just fabulous. I already know that I'd love to include more lifestyle with interiors, food and social hot spots on this blog from now on, so I hope that's all okay with you lovely lot?! I am going to spend the whole day at Ikea tomorrow so really a big home ware haul just has to be on the cards... The actual flat is super lovely too- think lots of fireplaces, a cottage-esque kitchen, high ceilings and split levels (all the important things to look for in a living place) and when we've had time to properly decorate, I'll be sure to share more of it with you both on here and my YouTube channel. But anyway, now we have internet again (it's been a tough week going cold turkey) I'm going to get back into my usual posting schedule so expect lots of beauty, fashion and hauls of spatulas oh so soon.

Have a fabulous weekend & let me know any posts you'd like to see!

2014 Favourites: Beauty Products

What are your favourite beauty products of 2014?

The Beauty Bucket List

Any normal human would take one look at my beauty boxes and think I have enough lotions, potions and powders to last a lifetime. But any blogger would know this is crazy talk; cue unveiling of ‘The Beauty Bucket List’- those pesky products I’ve wanted in my life for such a long time and vow to own by the end of the year (or month)…

Tarte The Sculptor // In the Kardashian dominated world that we live in, it’s pretty hard to resist products that promise to sculpt those cheekbones and I think Tarte’s crayon offering will be the perfect way to up my kontouring game. Get it?
Charlotte Tilbury // As much as I adore this cute kiss print bag, it’s acting as a symbol here for all the CT goodness I want to have in my collection asap. If it’s good enough for Mrs Clooney at the Golden Globes, it’s good enough for me.
Nars Sheer Glow // This cult favourite has been on my wishlist for an absolute age. With it’s satin finish and amazing coverage, I’m convinced it will be my holy grail foundation. I just need to man up and part with quite a few of my pennies for it.
Dior Lip Glow // With Spring looming (incredibly optimistic there) I will soon be saying goodbye to my vampy matte lips for another year and this gorgeous glowy balm from Dior will be perfect for next season’s more fresh faced minimal makeup days.
Lorac Pro Palette // Blame Vivianna for this one. It was her favourite eye offering of 2014 and who am I to argue with that? The shades look amazing and dare I say it, this would make a nice change from getting naked for the millionth year running.
Aesop Parsley Seed Mask // I ticked a lot of items off my skincare wishlist last year, but am still yet to try anything from Aesop. Lately though I’ve been suffering with hormonal spots (#lovegirlproblems) and have been told this will sort them out in no time.
OPI Nail Envy // My main 2015 beauty resolution was not only to stop biting my nails, but get them in great condition. After many a year of nail nibbling this is no mean feat, but getting some best in the business gloop on them is sure to help!

What’s on your ‘Beauty Bucket List’?

Meg’s Musings | Bored of the ‘blogger eye roll’

Over the past few months bloggers and vloggers have achieved some truly incredible things; book deals, magazine shoots and makeup lines to name but a few, however they’ve also received some pretty harsh criticism. But it’s not even the big articles that really worry me (the press will always hop on the latest ‘story’), it’s the eye roll that so many people now do when the word ‘blogger’ is mentioned. Even some family and friends, who know very little of this crazy online world that we’re a part of, are starting to take ‘blogger’ as another word for ‘makeup fan who got lucky and now gets free stuff’. The truth is there is so so much more to it than that. Zoella and Tanya Burr I most certainly am not and never will be, but blogging has still changed my life in the best possible way. It’s for that reason I wanted to bring blogger conversation back down from the pound signs and public appearances to why blogging is such an amazing thing for girls and guys to be doing in their spare time no matter how ‘big’ their platforms become.

WHOLESOME HOBBY
I decided to start what was then called ‘Meg’s Budget Boutique’, because it was the Summer after my first year of uni and (let’s be honest) I had too much time on my hands and not enough self-control in Boots, so wanted to do something productive about those predicaments. Some people spend their time playing sport or creating music and the hobby of beauty/fashion blogging is no less wholesome. In fact it combines writing, reading, photography, videography, computing, and design as well as some cracking makeup application and fashion styling. Considering other hobbies are so heavily encouraged, it is baffling when people complain that ‘everybody and their dog’ now has a blog and are annoyed by people ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ when it’s such a positive wagon to be part of!

SERIOUS SKILLS
Blogging should first and foremost be fun, but you do happen to pick up some excellent skills along the way which far surpass the amount gained jumping through hoops for certain qualifications. By setting up a blog/YouTube channel, creating content for it, running all the additional social channels that go alongside it and liaising with PR’s/other bloggers, you develop not only the obvious things like English, photography and social media skills, but also serious dedication, organisation, time management and business relations. It’s hard work, especially when you balance it with a degree or full time job, which is why getting those blog posts and videos up is no mean feat and luck can only get you so far.

HELLO CAREER
You start a blog to share your passions with likeminded people, but for many it also leads to dream jobs in a way qualifications alone never could. Obviously there are now many people who can turn to blogging full time and instead of people giving them jip for not having a ‘real job’, their risk taking and entrepreneurial talent needs to be admired and celebrated. Then there are the much lower profile cases like my own, where my blog and other social channels not only made me realise exactly what I wanted to do in life but also helped to secure work experience, then an internship and finally my current role as Social Media Coordinator for feelunique which I absolutely adore. So many girls can now go into roles previously inaccessible to them thanks to blogging and that is bloomin’ marvellous news.

CONFIDENCE BOOST
As a former theatre student, I’ve never exactly been a shy and retiring wall flower, but I did struggle to stand up for myself when it came to comments from the classic mean girls in life and have always had inhibitions about my girly voice and crazy hair. Then blogging came along and that completely changed. Of course there’s always going to be some ridiculous trolls, but the support and love you get from day one as a blogger from other young girls is totally heart warming and enough to get you over the biggest personal struggles. You also end up going to events across the country alone, which makes you one seriously social cookie, no longer afraid of mingling and being first to Instagram the cupcake stand.

THE FRIENDSHIP THING
Pretty much every blogger will walk into those aforementioned events and come out with a list of Twitter handles or numbers that eventually turn into real life friends. I have met the most wonderful people through blogging and was lucky enough to have tea and cake with a lot of them last year- there's even a whole weekend put aside in my diary so I can go and stay with Kayleigh later this month. People have asked before why bloggers help each other, because surely they are rivals, but the brilliant thing about bloggers is that they’re stronger together and have created a really amazing community, which I for one am so proud to be a tiny little part of.

2014 Favourites: Makeup

One sure fire way to combat those January blues is to surround yourself with your favourite makeup from the past year which is definitely what I did when filming my 2014 Favourites Part One video! So many of last year's favourites are super affordable and truly fabulous so definitely worth adding to the wish list, if not the immediate boots basket... #enabler As ever please do let me know what your makeup favourites of last year were and if you guessed anything that popped up in this video (Kate Moss 107 anyone?)  Hope 2015 is going dandily for you all!

Down at the disco | OOTD

topshop crop // american apparel disco pants // new look parka // converse // asos bobble hat

When you've spent over a year working in an office rather than going to lectures, you really start to miss dressing like a student. So when I'm having a low key weekend I love to dress down and bring a bit of my student wardrobe back and yes, that does mean disco pants and crop tops in the middle of Winter... I recently repurchased the American Apparel disco pants in the Black Friday sales because my other ones had given up the ghost and I'm so happy I did. They're just super sucky-in, shiny high waisted pants of possibility that can be worn so many ways. I love them best with a good old crop top so you get a flattering hint of cheeky mid-drift. Oo la la. The crop top in question is a new find from Topshop that is burgundy and long sleeved so really nice for this A/W season. The burgundy bobble hat is another new addition that I got for Christmas from Dave and I must say I wish it was socially acceptable to wear this at all times because it's so cosy and keeps my hair in check! Add in the trusty parka/classic converse and you have an outfit fit for taking in front of a garage door that makes a delightful change from shirts and heels.

What's your favourite weekend wear?

Hello 2015

Apologies that I’ve been a bit MIA this week compared to my daily vlogmas posts, but the New Year has got off to a literally flying start and I should have some very exciting news to report soon! I haven’t even had time to sit down and write my annual New Years post yet, so I thought I’d best do that now. Instead of making a great list of things to achieve this year like I usually do, I’ve come up with five things I’d just really like to work on in 2015.

GET SORTED // I have to confess I’m not exactly a tidy lass (much to my mum’s/boyfriend’s dismay) and this sometimes gets me into a bit of a muddle both in real life and technology wise, so I want to work on being a bit more organised- tidying, sorting and labelling as I go!
NICE NAILS // My New Year resolution for the past 10 years or so has been to stop nibbling at my nails. It gets worse when I’m nervous but with no more exams in my life and an excessive nail polish collection to my name, this IS the year my mani looks marvellous at all times.
ENERGISE // With the traveling (and socialising) I tend to do, as well as job/blog juggling, I struggle quite a bit with getting rather run down. So instead of turning to eye drops and coffee I’m going to pay a lot more attention to the most important things in feeling and looking good- sleep, water and exercise!
BE A FOODY // Another thing I was guilty of in 2014 is not paying enough attention to food. I do love my food, but I don’t always make time for it or plan ahead enough, so once I’m in my flat with Dave (eeeek!) I want to be cooking nutritious meals, always eating breakfast and preplanning my lunches.
EXPLORE MORE // I managed to get away to Barcelona last year before I started my new job, but I’d really like to plant my feet on more unfamiliar soils over the next 12 months. Not just abroad for big holidays, but also visiting my country wide blogger babes and driving off for weekend escapes.

What are your resolutions for 2015? I hope you’re all having a great New Year so far!

What I Got For Christmas

Finishing up this season's festive posts, we have the classic 'What I Got For Christmas'. I love reading, filming and watching these so I do hope you enjoy seeing what Santa brought me down the chimney this (well technically last) year. I was a very lucky lady and there are a few sneak peeks in the photo above but some highlights have to be my Kindle Paperwhite which is currently providing me with 'Divergent', the 'snug as a pug on a rug' phone case which makes me smile every time I look at it and array of new Cath Kidston bags/holders which will make my commute a whole lot more pretty in the new year! Speaking of the new year, I hope you're all having an amazing start to 2015- I'll be doing a couple of highlight/resolution posts  over the next few days before work and reality kicks back off properly and normal unseasonal blogging resumes. Bring back the baubles I say...

What did Father Christmas bring you this year?
